A young boy, his mother, and younger sister move to a new home. He misses his friends. The only friends he makes are 41 ducks. Caring and interacting with the ducks becomes an essential part of his days. When the ducks eventually fly south for the winter, the boy is devastated. Only then does he connect with his younger sister. As she grows to an age more able to play, that growing relationship starts to bring him joy.
The precious illustrations show the expressions that move across a young child’s face as he experiences the upheaval leaving a familiar place. This is a story about moving, finding connections, and building relationships. It is based on the author’s experience of moving with young children during the pandemic.
